When you are marketing your business it’s important to make sure that you are not putting all your eggs in one basket and that you have more than one method of bringing traffic to your website.

Imagine if you rely solely on Facebook (for example) to bring traffic and leads to your website and one day Facebook changes something with their algorithm and no-one is seeing your posts.
And all the leads you were getting stop.

You should master each one and once it is working (i.e. bringing in business) then move onto another one.
And remember to pick the ones you enjoy doing. There is no point hating marketing your business – you should love what you do and the passion you show for it will come through in your marketing.
Creating regular content that will attract your ideal customers is key. Think about what they are interested and most importantly focus on topics that will attract people in your local area.
Facebook is a great way to engage with your customers. If you spend time getting to know what your followers love then there is no reason you can’t have a very engaged Facebook Page.
Instagram is growing rapidly in popularity and there are a lot of pet lovers on there! It’s the perfect place to showcase your services, let people get to know you and build a relationship with people. It’s also a great platform to start conversations with people that don’t know you.
Google My Business
Once you have this set up then it doesn’t require a lot of work to maintain. So I would recommend everyone set it up and work on getting reviews. It’s also worthwhile making sure you create weekly posts and add photos on a regular basis to keep your account active.
I am a huge fan of the old fashioned traditional marketing methods. I think they work extremely well and done correctly can be a great way to generate leads.
If you can do these in your local area then they work extremely well. Another more traditional marketing method which does take time but it can yield great results.
Talking to People
How many times in a day to you talk to someone about your business and how you can help them? It’s probably not as many times a day as you think. Get into the habit of just chatting to people and building relationships and naturally people will ask what you do.
Having a referral program for existing customers is important. These are the people that can tell potential new customers how great you are.
The search function on Twitter makes it a great place to find pet lovers in your area who might need your services. Don’t sell to them – instead start a conversation, be useful and get to know them.
Whilst Linkedin is a more business to business platform there are still people with pets using the platform. Educational blog posts are great to share and even news articles.
FB groups have been around for years – we are all members of lots of them. When you create a group for your pet business make sure that you have a clear direction for it and that you make sure your brand is front and centre. Yes you want a nice community for pet lovers but you do want people to realise what you sell.
This might be with other pet businesses, networking groups or a group you create yourself for small business owners. There are lots of opportunities to get together with other business owners who might be able to refer business to you.
Reach out to local businesses and see how you can collaborate. If you don’t let people know about your business how can they use your services!
Tell them what you do and how you can help their audience.
Anything pet related will be of interest to your audience. Make sure that people know you are the go to expert in the pet industry through interviews.
Get on video and tell your story, explain what you do and connect with your audience. Storytelling is so important as a business owner.
