If you have not heard about blogging for your business then you have probably been living under a rock – no joke! But seriously you have probably thought to yourself at some stage ‘Why Start a Blog?’
It’s a time commitment for sure, it’s not immediate massive results in terms of organic traffic and it takes a little bit of time to learn and perfect your skills.
Why Start A Blog For Your Business?
Business Owners Have No Choice
I honestly believe in this day and age you really don’t have a choice but to create content about your business. It’s an absolute must that you educate and inform your customers, because if you don’t then your competition will.
People are typing questions into Google all day about the things they want to know about and if you want them to see you as the expert in your industry you need to be the one that pops up on the first page of Google being helpful and informative.
Believe it or not, blogging can actually save you time in your business. If you know that 75% of every customer you speak to asks you about a particular element of your service and you spend a lot of time addressing that via email or on the phone, then why not write a blog about it that you can send to them every time they have that question. A blog that is detailed and has a clear ‘Call To Action’ (something they need to do) once they have read the article.
Instead of spending ages on the phone or email answering the question and then trying to sell your services then you could have the article do that for you.
You Need To Build Trust
There is so much information on the internet about different service providers, so much so that sometimes it is really hard to decide who to choose. You see very similar services and how do you decide?
Personally, I do the following:
- I judge the business by the website. Old, out of date and not updated then I move on
- I look if they updated their social media. I don’t want to work with someone who I can’t get access to easily with a question.
- I look at their blog! Probably an occupational hazard, but I want to know that they care.
You Need To Be Helpful
I love people that help me when I contact them. I don’t like being sold to and I am more likely to do business with someone that takes an interest in me and what I need.
Someone who is all about how great they are and what they offer doesn’t scream I care about your business.
I want to know what their skills are, what they believe in and how they can help me. I want free information so I can see they are knowledgeable and I want to understand the services they offer and how they deliver them.
You Probably Don’t Have Millions To Spend On Advertising
Unless you are a huge corporate brand you probably don’t have millions to spend on ads. Advertising can work for you, but it shouldn’t be your only method of gaining new clients. You need to establish your position in the search engines so that you have organic traffic.
Organic traffic is where people are specifically searching for something that you have to offer. It’s the best type of traffic, because that person is already in buying mode and is looking to make a decision – or at least open to finding out more about what you have to offer.
Using the content you create to inform and educate your clients is the best method of advertising.
