Sometimes I get the impression when people talk about blogging that it’s just another thing that they need to do and tick off their to do list. They are in business, someone told them they need a blog and so they now ‘blog’ every week. They write something, usually promoting themselves, and then they consider that’s the job done rather than focusing on having a really successful blog.
What’s also shocking to me is the number of people that blog and have ZERO traffic coming to their website (or very little). Or even worse they don’t even know how many visitors they have because they don’t check!
There is a cost to blogging, even if it’s just your own time. So if you are going to invest ‘money’ into your business don’t you want to see a good return for it.
Why Aren’t People Getting Traffic To Their Blog?
Blogging isn’t just about writing content each week, it’s about writing content that:
- People love and will share
- Will be found on Google Search
It’s about doing your homework and getting your blogs to convert to traffic and customers. Making sure that you have a good system and know what the purpose is for each of your blog posts.
3 Tips To Get Your Blog Working For You
Find Out What People Are Searching For
When you sit down to write a blog post how much time and effort do you put into finding out what people are searching for and how they are searching for it.
For example are people typing into Google:
Why Does My Dog Eat Its Own Poo Or Why Do Dogs Eat Poop
When it comes to Google there will be a difference in the search results and the number of views each article gets based on these 2 titles, so which one do you want to write? The title that gets the most searches that you are most likely to rank for.
If you don’t do your homework though how do you know which you are most likely to rank for?
Focus On SEO For Your Blog Posts
SEO can sound like a foreign word to most people, but understanding the basics is key so that Google knows what your article is about and who they should show it to.
- Make sure you are using an SEO plugin and let it help you structure your article to maximise its potential.
- Make sure you have a checklist of all the things you need to check in your article.
- Follow the same process for every article and don’t cut corners.
Build A Following and Share Your Blogs
If you have identified your ideal customers and built a following full of them then they will want to read your blog posts. Make sure you share what you write with them.
You can do this on social media or via an email newsletter. Don’t assume they will go looking for your blog posts – you need to make it really easy for them.
