If you read my blog recently about choosing a blog title then you have hopefully started writing your big 5 Blog Post titles.
It’s a great place to start and build some solid evergreen content that you can keep sharing over and over again. These will be the blog titles that will still be bringing in traffic in years to come – because they are the questions that people will still be asking you.
So, lets say now you want to branch out a bit and start giving your readers different content – something that might entertain them or amuse them.
How Do You Decide What To Blog About?
There are quite a few things you can do to come up with blog titles, but here are my top 3.
#1. Think like a customer
What do you think pet owners want to read about? What do they love the most? Their pets of course! So answer the questions that they have about their pets.
What are they asking about their pets? What do people ask on Facebook in general about their pets?
Things like – How Do I Clean My Dogs Ears? Why Does My Dog Eat It’s Poop? etc etc
Get into the mind of your customer (A Pet Owner) and think about all the things that you might want to know about.
#2. Look On Google
Google is very good at telling you what people are typing into Google. If you notice when you start to type into Google a query it comes up with a few other suggested queries that might interest you.
So if I type in ‘Why Does My Dog” you will see suggestions of what other people have typed in.
These are all titles that you could use as blog titles. Ones that you know are being searched on Google.
You could type lots of other phrases into Google to see what other suggestions come up.
Once you have selected your search, for example Why Does My Dog Eat Poop, you can then go to the bottom of the page to see the related searches. This again gives you more blog title ideas.
#3 Use Software To Find Out
You can do some keyword search in Google Adwords to see which keywords are getting the most searches.
This gives you an idea of the types of things people are searching for.
Another tool is Long Tail Pro. This is a paid product, but it gives you keyword phrases that people are searching and shows you how popular they are.
It also shows you different companies that rank well for these particular keyword phrases, so you can see what is already being written about them.
Let me know in the comments below how you decide what to blog about.
